BEIJING, May 22 (Reuters) \u2013 China added three chemicals on Friday to its list of controlled precursor chemicals curbing their export to \u200bCanada, Mexico and the United States, \u200ca week after U.S. and Chinese leaders held a summit in Beijing.<\/p>\n
The National Narcotics Control Commission also issued a notice warning of eight chemicals that could be \u200cused \u200bto make synthetic drugs.<\/p>\n
It ordered \u2060those engaging in related \u2060business and export trade activities to \u201cstrictly comply with domestic and foreign laws and regulations\u201d.<\/p>\n
The moves mirrored Beijing\u2019s anti-narcotics curbs adopted in November, \u200bdays after a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping \u2060in South Korea.<\/p>\n
At those talks, \u2060the United States agreed to trim \u200btariffs on China in exchange in part for \u200bBeijing cracking down on the illicit fentanyl trade.<\/p>\n
Washington \u200chad repeatedly accused Beijing of failing to stem the flow of precursor chemicals for fentanyl, with Trump imposing fentanyl-related tariffs on Beijing in \u2060early 2025 that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down in February.<\/p>\n
China had dismissed Washington\u2019s accusations over the \u2060deadly opioid, \u200csaying the issue was a U.S. \u2060problem whose responsibility rested with Washington.<\/p>\n
Chinese \u200band \u200cU.S. anti-narcotics authorities arrested five suspects \u200bthis month \u2060and seized a batch of drugs in a joint investigation of a drug smuggling and trafficking case, state media said.<\/p>\n
