As of this writing, if you search for the term \u201cdisregard,\u201d instead of showing the usual AI-generated summary of search results, the AI Overview section instead includes a response like what you\u2019d see from a more traditional AI chatbot, as called out <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ariadotwav\/status\/2057738319316816097?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">by a post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">To one Verge colleague searching \u201cdisregard\u201d:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">Got it! Let me know if you need help with anything else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Nothing else followed in the AI Overview portion of the results page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">No problem at all! How can I help you today?<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">I searched for \u201cdisregard\u201d again later and got another response, which you can see in the image at the top of this post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">AI Overviews aren\u2019t just tripping up over the word \u201cdisregard.\u201d When searching for \u201cignore,\u201d Google\u2019s AI Overview section showed the following message to a Verge colleague:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">Message received! I\u2019m here and ready to help. What would you like to focus on today? Just let me know if there\u2019s a specific topic, task, or question you\u2019d like to explore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">When they searched \u201cskip,\u201d the AI Overview section said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">It looks like your message was just a test or a typo! Feel free to ask a question, share a prompt, or let me know how I can help you with your tasks today. I\u2019m ready whenever you are!<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Google didn\u2019t immediately reply to a request for comment about what\u2019s going on. However, this is almost certainly just some kind of funny bug. Maybe Google Search itself is tired after everything that happened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/932454\/google-io-2026-news-announcements\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at Google I\/O<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Google\u2019s AI Overviews are running into an interesting problem right now.
