Five members of footballer Harry Maguire\u2019s family have now criticised the England manager, Thomas Tuchel<\/a>, for omitting the Manchester United defender from his World Cup squad.<\/p>\n

Maguire has won 67 caps for the national team and was a mainstay under Tuchel\u2019s predecessor, Gareth Southgate, for the squads that reached the final of Euro 2020 and the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also played for England in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was ruled out of consideration for the Euro 2024 squad through injury.<\/p>\n

But the 33-year-old was not selected in the 26-man squad for the forthcoming tournament in North America, to be played in June and July, and expressed his disappointment on X before Friday\u2019s official announcement.<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s mother, Zoe, was the first to criticise Tuchel. She responded to her son\u2019s post, writing on Thursday night: \u201cYou couldn\u2019t have done any more. Hold your head high \u2026 Disgraceful.\u201d She added: \u201cAbsolute disgusted\u201d in a separate post.<\/p>\n

The defender\u2019s brothers, Joe and Laurence, waded in on Friday. Joe called it \u201cthe worst decision I\u2019ve ever seen\u201d while Laurence described it as a \u201cshambles\u201d.<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s wife, Fern, has also expressed her disappointment, writing on Instagram: \u201cBeyond devastated for you. There was nothing else you could have possibly done to prove your worth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need to tell you how admired you are, just a shame you were up against a single opinion. Forever behind you my love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s younger sister, Daisy, wrote on Instagram: \u201cCrazy decision. Keep your head up.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Thursday night, Maguire wrote on social media that he was \u201cconfident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I\u2019ve had\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI\u2019ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I\u2019ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March, Maguire was given a 15-month suspended sentence by a Greek court following an altercation on the island of Mykonos in 2020.<\/p>\n

A retrial concluded that the footballer was guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.<\/p>\n

Maguire\u2019s defence team vowed to take the case to Greece\u2019s supreme court.
