{"id":659481,"date":"2026-05-23T00:43:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T00:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/659481\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T00:43:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T00:43:09","slug":"report-cardinals-and-jacoby-brissett-are-significantly-far-apart-in-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/659481\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Cardinals and Jacoby Brissett are &#8220;significantly&#8221; far apart in negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jacoby Brissett has not attended any of the Cardinals\u2019 voluntary offseason program as he waits for a reworked contract for this season.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Weinfuss of ESPN reports that Brissett and the Cardinals are \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48846780\/jacoby-brissett-not-close-reworked-deal-cardinals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">significantly<\/a>\u201d far apart in negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>The quarterback is entering the second year of a two-year deal he signed in March 2025. He is scheduled to make $4.88 million in 2026, with a max value of $5.39 million, but only $1.5 million is guaranteed. Gardner Minshew, who was signed as a free agent in March, has $5.14 million guaranteed for this season.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this offseason, Weinfuss reported that the Cardinals informed Brissett he was their starting quarterback. But the Cardinals have a new head coach and a new offense, and it\u2019s unclear to what extent Brissett\u2019s absence will hurt him in the competition for the starting job.<\/p>\n<p>Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur downplayed Brissett\u2019s absence earlier this week, saying that Brissett has \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/mike-lafleur-weve-had-contact-with-jacoby-brissett-ill-leave-it-at-that\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">done probably everything<\/a> we\u2019ve ever done schematically.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Arizona will hold a mandatory minicamp on June 8-10, which will cost Brissett a fine of $107,911 if he misses all three days. <\/p>\n<p>Brissett started 12 games for the Cardinals last season, completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 3,366 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
