The results from last week\u2019s poll<\/a> have us wondering \u2013 do people really love the Sony Xperia 1 VIII<\/a> so much or do they love phones with 3.5mm headphone jacks and microSD slots and the Xperia happens to be the only flagship to have those features?<\/p>\n

Because the results are quite positive \u2013 nearly a quarter of voters are willing to spend \u20ac1,500\/\u00a31,400 to get the Mark 8 and that is if they pick up the base 12\/256GB unit. The 512GB and 1TB models cost more (\u20ac2,000\/\u00a31,850 in the case of the 1TB version).<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the positive vote could have gone higher, but Sony didn\u2019t even launch the Xperia 1 VIII in several major markets, so those would-be buyers are left out.<\/p>\n

And, yes, the phone is expensive, which is turning away many people \u2013 some don\u2019t want to spend over \u20ac1,000 on a smartphone and many of those that do, think they can get better hardware from other brands.<\/p>\n

People in the comments found plenty to complain about \u2013 the 6.5\u201d 1080p+ display doesn\u2019t match the price, the chipset doesn\u2019t have enough cooling and Sony did basically nothing with the battery and charging hardware since the previous generation.<\/p>\n

Sony\u2019s work on the camera is interesting, but it\u2019s hard to justify the results in the context of that price tag \u2013 the image quality isn\u2019t on par with similarly-priced Ultra phones.<\/p>\n

Anyway, other makers should consider bringing back the 3.5mm jack and the microSD slot \u2013 these features still have die-hard fans.<\/p>\n
