{"id":662105,"date":"2026-05-24T10:26:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T10:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662105\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T10:26:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T10:26:26","slug":"oklahoma-city-bound-8-7-lady-vols-punch-ticket-to-10th-womens-college-world-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662105\/","title":{"rendered":"OKLAHOMA CITY BOUND: #8 [7] Lady Vols Punch Ticket to 10th Women\u2019s College World Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KNOXVILLE, Tenn. \u2014 For the 10th time in program history, the No. 8 [7] Tennessee Lady Vols are headed to the Women&#8217;s College World Series.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/sophia-knight\/22438\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22438\" target=\"_blank\">Sophia Knight&#8217;s<\/a> two-run home run and a dominant relief outing from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/sage-mardjetko\/21024\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"21024\" target=\"_blank\">Sage Mardjetko<\/a> powered Tennessee to a 2-1 victory over No. 16 [10] Georgia on Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, clinching the Knoxville Super Regional and a return trip to Oklahoma City.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nMardjetko (14-2) was outstanding in relief, tossing 5.2 innings while striking out nine and limiting the Bulldogs to two hits. The junior right-hander helped Tennessee improve to 47-10 on the season.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTennessee&#8217;s only offense came in the second inning when Knight followed up her solo homer from Thursday&#8217;s opener with a two-run blast to right field. The junior outfielder now has two home runs this season and three in her collegiate career.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nGeorgia (41-20) struggled to generate offense throughout the afternoon, finishing with four hits.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Bulldogs threatened in the seventh inning when Emily Digby led off with a triple down the right-field line. Mardjetko responded by inducing a pop-up to <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/ella-dodge\/20375\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20375\" target=\"_blank\">Ella Dodge<\/a> for the first out before a wild pitch allowed Digby to score and cut the deficit to 2-1. Mardjetko quickly regained control, striking out the next batter before inducing a game-ending groundout to <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/emma-clarke\/21027\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"21027\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Clarke<\/a>.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Lady Vols have now secured consecutive Women&#8217;s College World Series appearances for the first time since 2012-13. Head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/coaches\/karen-weekly\/5370\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"5370\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Weekly<\/a> has led Tennessee to all 10 WCWS appearances in program history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTennessee will face the winner of the Austin Super Regional in the opening round of the Women&#8217;s College World Series.
