{"id":662340,"date":"2026-05-24T13:32:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662340\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T13:32:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:32:11","slug":"leicester-city-jordan-ayew-and-ricardo-pereira-among-10-players-leaving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662340\/","title":{"rendered":"Leicester City: Jordan Ayew and Ricardo Pereira among 10 players leaving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Forward Jordan Ayew, captain Ricardo Pereira and striker Patson Daka are among 10 players released by Leicester City following their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/live\/cvg0zz7xm63t\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">relegation from the Championship.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Ghana international Ayew, 34, is expected to be part of the Black Stars squad for this summer&#8217;s World Cup but is leaving the Foxes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/ced1544jjqdo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after two seasons<\/a> which saw them relegated in successive years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He scored 11 league goals in 72 appearances for Leicester and featured in all but four of their Championship matches this season as they finished second from bottom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Defender Pereira, 32, won both the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his eight seasons at Kingpower Stadium after signing from Porto for \u00a321.8m <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/44186203\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in 2018.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The City skipper made 220 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 15 goals and his departure had been announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cn5pw2nx2gxo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earlier this month.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Also departing is Daka who cost \u00a323m when<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/57662332\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> joining from RB Salzburg in 2021<\/a> but he managed only five goals in 41 Championship appearances this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He leaves along with defender Jamaal Lascelles who signed on a short-term deal in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Defenders Jake Donohue and Jahmari Lindsay have also been released along with midfielders Alfie Fisken, Toby Onanaye, and Olaoluwa Omobolaji and striker Chris Popov who scored seven goals during a loan spell with Morecambe this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Leicester have confirmed 38-year-old goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is in talks to sign a new contract with his current deal due to expire this summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Forward Jordan Ayew, captain Ricardo Pereira and striker Patson Daka are among 10 players released by Leicester City&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":662341,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[69],"tags":[403,99],"class_list":["post-662340","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-soccer","tag-soccer","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/662340","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=662340"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/662340\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/662341"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=662340"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=662340"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=662340"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
