{"id":662642,"date":"2026-05-24T17:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T17:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662642\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T17:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T17:28:11","slug":"si-woo-kim-hangs-on-to-byron-nelson-lead-and-has-scottie-scheffler-and-wyndham-clark-chasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/662642\/","title":{"rendered":"Si Woo Kim hangs on to Byron Nelson lead and has Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark chasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>McKINNEY, Texas \u2014 Si Woo Kim lost all of the five-shot lead he built a day earlier <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/si-woo-kim-posts-60-at-second-round-of-cj-cup-byron-nelson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">while flirting with sub-60 history<\/a> at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old South Korean still managed to maintain an edge over a couple of major champions, including hometown favorite and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/byron-nelson-final-round-how-to-watch-sunday-tee-times-scottie-scheffler-si-woo-kim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">heading into the final round<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kim shot 3-under 68 on Saturday for a two-shot lead over top-ranked Scheffler and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/wyndham-clark-moving-day-2026-byron-nelson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark<\/a>, who had matching 65s.<\/p>\n<p>Sungjae Im, Kim\u2019s countryman, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/sungjae-im-byron-nelson-2026-hole-in-one\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">followed a second-round 61<\/a> with a 67 and was another two shots back with Stephan Jaeger and Tom Hoge. Jaeger\u2019s 64 was the low round of the day at the TPC Craig Ranch, and Hoge shot 66.<\/p>\n<p>Zach Bauchou (66) was 16 under, one shot ahead of Brooks Koepka (66) and three others. Koepka, who opened with a 63, is looking for his first win since returning to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf.<\/p>\n<p>Kim, the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/cj-cup-byron-nelson-2026-odds-favorites-best-bets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">field\u2019s second highest-ranked player behind Scheffler<\/a> at No. 24, was in position for a 59 in the second round but had a bogey at 18 that forced him to settle for 60.<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"Link\" aria-label=\"THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson - Final Rd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/watch\/live\/the-cj-cup-byron-nelson-final-rd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"Image for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson - Final Rd\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779643690_339_.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>live<\/p>\n<p>The final round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson is underway at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>His five-shot lead was tied for the second-biggest on tour through 36 holes this season behind Rory McIlroy\u2019s six-shot edge <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/rory-mcilroy-wins-second-straight-masters-title-over-scottie-scheffler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">when he defended his Masters championship in April.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was gone by the 11th hole.<\/p>\n<p>Three bogeys in a span of four holes \u2014 all on putts inside 10 feet \u2014 dropped the four-time tour winner into a tie with Clark at 18 under. Clark had earlier pulled within a stroke with a short eagle putt on the par-5 ninth.<\/p>\n<p>Clark took the lead a scrambling birdie at the par-5 12th, making a 15-foot putt after a bunker shot with his right foot in the grass, his flexed right knee almost touching the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Kim, Scheffler and Clark were tied at 19 under when Kim went in front with a birdie on the short par-4 14th after Scheffler and Clark settled for pars after trying to drive the green.<\/p>\n<p>Clark got even again, but Kim went in front for good with a birdie at the par-3 15th.<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler, a four-time major winner who ran away to an eight-shot victory at last year\u2019s Nelson, answered his first bogey of the tournament on the par-3 fourth with three birdies over the final five holes on the front nine.<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"Link\" aria-label=\"CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2026: Final-round tee times, pairings, and how to watch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/byron-nelson-final-round-how-to-watch-sunday-tee-times-scottie-scheffler-si-woo-kim\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2026 - Round Three\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1779643691_934_.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The final round from TPC Craig Ranch features local stars and friends Scottie Scheffler and Si Woo Kim vying for a piece of the $10.3-million purse.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Spieth, a hometown favorite alongside Scheffler, faded with four bogeys on his first five holes on the back nine a day after <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/jordan-spieth-seizes-control-of-byron-nelson-thanks-to-back-nine-birdie-spree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">six consecutive birdies to start his second nine spurred a 62<\/a>. He shot 73.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/pga-tour\/news\/taylor-moore-shoots-62-snatches-first-round-lead-from-brooks-koepka-late-at-byron-nelson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First-round leader Taylor Moore<\/a> was back in contention after four consecutive birdies, but went in the water at 15 and ended up with a triple-bogey 6.
