LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) – The Columbia County Sheriff\u2019s Office shared new details with TV20 about their investigation into U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida, after his ex-girlfriend, a national beauty pageant winner, filed a criminal complaint against him.<\/p>\n

Mills is accused of threatening to release sexually explicit images and videos of his ex-girlfriend and former Miss United States winner, Lindsey Langston.<\/p>\n

She says the two began dating in November 2021, and the relationship ended earlier this year. The report was filed last month with the Columbia County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The congressman also threatened to harm any men that the woman planned to date in the future, she said.<\/p>\n

After taking the initial report, the sheriff\u2019s office handed the case over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). No charges have been filed in this case as of this report.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this case, we felt that given the nature of the parties involved and whatnot, it would best be handled by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, so it was referred to them,\u201d said Sgt. Steven Khachigan, a spokesperson for the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Mills has denied the allegations made by Langston, arguing that the report misrepresents the nature of his interactions. He also points the finger at Anthony Sabatini, his former Florida primary opponent, for \u201cweaponizing the legal system to launch a political attack against the man who beat him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe certainly understand that when you have people who are public figures, it may become more of an attention-drawing matter, but in terms of how we have to administer our investigation and the law, that doesn\u2019t change anything,\u201d said Khachigan. <\/p>\n

Florida law prohibits the sharing of intimate photos or videos with the intent of causing emotional distress. The crime, sexual cyberharassment, is commonly referred to as \u201crevenge porn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the technology that we have readily available in our society, I realize that [sending sexual images] is a common thing for people to do, but I would just caution people in general,\u201d said Khachigan. \u201cA lot of times, those things like that don\u2019t just stay closely guarded as one might think.\u201d <\/p>\n
