Spain will go to the World Cup without a single Real Madrid<\/a> player for the first time in their history as Luis de la Fuente named his 26-man squad for this summer\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n

While Real stars such as Dean Huijsen, Dani Carvajal and Gonzalo Garc\u00eda miss out, De la Fuente included Barcelona\u2019s Lamine Yamal, who tore his left hamstring<\/a> on 22\u00a0April and missed the rest of his club\u2019s La\u00a0Liga campaign.<\/p>\n

Previous reports said the 18-year-old could miss Spain\u2019s World Cup<\/a> opener but De la Fuente said he had \u201cno doubt\u201d about the availability of the forward and others \u2013 including Nico Williams and Mikel Merino \u2013 who are dealing with fitness concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very calm,\u201d De la Fuente said. \u201cI think that if there are no setbacks, we can almost have everyone available from the first game. The doctor and fitness coach have been visiting the clubs and talking to them. We\u2019ve been coordinating \u2026 I have no doubt they\u2019ll be ready for the first game, and if not, they\u2019ll be ready for the second.\u201d<\/p>\n

De la Fuente announced his squad at an event in Madrid on Monday, notably leaving out Huijsen, Carvajal and Garc\u00eda. Also absent is the injured Barcelona midfielder Ferm\u00edn L\u00f3pez as well as the Como forward \u00c1lvaro Morata, who captained Spain<\/a> when they won the European championship in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s difficult,\u201d De la Fuente said of leaving players out. \u201cWe think about every possible scenario that can happen in games with our opponents, and their characteristics \u2026 We\u2019ve chosen these 26. I think we\u2019ve covered the needs of the team \u2026 I don\u2019t look at whether they play for one team or another.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spain, who are ranked No 2 in the world behind France, are in Group H with Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. They open their campaign against Cape Verde on 15 June in Atlanta before playing Saudi Arabia on 21 June, also in Atlanta. They finish their group stage in Mexico, when they face Uruguay on 26 June in Guadalajara.<\/p>\n

The 2010 World Cup champions will warm up for the competition with friendlies against Iraq and Peru. They expect to improve on their performance at the 2022 World\u00a0Cup, when they lost to Morocco in the last\u00a016.<\/p>\n
