MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical company, is suing several people and a network of pharmacies affiliated with the Church of God in Christ over an alleged fraudulent drug rebate scheme tied to the diabetic drug, Trulicity.<\/p>\n
Eli Lilly and Company has filed a 66-page federal civil complaint<\/a> in the Southern District of Florida against DrugPlace, INC. and others alleging that there was a $200 million pharmaceutical rebate fraud scheme taking place from 2020-2025.<\/p>\n The complaint claims the group bought huge quantities of the drug, falsely reported it was dispensed to patients through a church-affiliated cost-sharing program, then resold the medication on the secondary market\u2014while collecting rebates from Lilly. <\/p>\n Lilly is seeking an injunction, restitution, and additional damages.<\/p>\n COGIC offered the following statement<\/a> on their website saying in part, \u201cThe Church of God in Christ has no knowledge of the acts alleged in the complaint. The Church has not knowingly participated in, authorized, or condoned any of the alleged fraudulent activity described in the lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n In court documents, Eli Lilly alleges that the \u201ccost share program\u201d is a \u201csham.\u201d The company argued that, \u201cThe data they provide to support the rebate claims show highly anomalous prescription and utilization trends antithetical to a legitimate patient population, and the prescription-level data are unsupported by basic verifying information.\u201d <\/p>\n
