SEATTLE \u2014 The story of the Seattle Storm is very much in its opening chapters. After all, we’re just seven games into a 44-game regular season slate. <\/p>\n
But the message from the get-go was that this team would get better. Better with each and every game or practice.<\/p>\n
We’re watching it right before our eyes.<\/p>\n
The Storm, after a rough loss to Connecticut last week, has responded with two straight wins, wins that were never really in doubt in the second half.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, a 97-85 win over the Washington Mystics was highlighted by the return of Katie Lou Samuelson, recovering from knee surgery and playing her first game since 2024! <\/p>\n
It also meant the arrival of a potential future superstar.<\/p>\n
Awa Fam.<\/p>\n
Fam just arrived in Seattle on Thursday, after helping her Spanish professional team Valencia win a 4th straight league title.<\/p>\n
Just three days later on Sunday she was suiting up for the Storm. And scoring in double-figures.<\/p>\n
Fam is just the 14th teenager to play in the WNBA as a teenager and just the 2nd to score double-figures in their debut (10 points).<\/p>\n
Suddenly, the Storm is two-players stronger, deeper and ready for the rest of the road.<\/p>\n
Mind you, they’ll also get Dominique Malonga back soon, as Malonga works through concussion protocol. Ezi Magbegor, the team’s longest tenured player is yet to take to the floor in 2026 but is projected to debut in June while recovering from a foot injury.<\/p>\n
So, there’s the tangible boost that these returning players provide. We’ve talked about it since April, that the team would be bolstered and an absolute force by the summer.<\/p>\n
But there’s also the stuff you can’t see on paper or manifest in a box score. <\/p>\n
This team is building chemistry, you can see it each trip up and down the floor. The cohesiveness is so much stronger than it was even just two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
It’s obvious.<\/p>\n
And it’s also obvious that they truly enjoy one another. We saw firsthand how that helped local teams like the Seahawks and Mariners play at a championship level for their last season. The impact is immeasurable.<\/p>\n
So, yes it is May. Game 7 of 44. You can’t get too high or too low.<\/p>\n
But you can absolutely see the signs of what this team could be in 2026.<\/p>\n
