The Algood Police Department and the Cookeville Police Department released public safety notices about black bear sightings in neighborhoods.

The Algood Police Department report that a bear has been seen going through trash and moving through neighborhoods near Dogwood Lane and Phillips Cemetery Road.

Officers report that the bear has not yet displayed aggressive behavior, but for the public’s safety, officers say to not approach or attempt to interact with the bear, to remain indoors if it is in the immediate vicinity, and to bring pets inside until the bear has left the area. They also recommend the public to secure trash and food sources that may attract wildlife.

Cookeville Police Department also released a public safety alert about a bear in the area of 10th Street and Washington Avenue seen digging through trash in a residential area.
