Eid Al-Adha
\ncelebrations began on Tuesday across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with
\nresidents gathering for Arafat Day ceremonies in Erbil, Al-Sulaymaniyah, and
\nflocking to livestock markets in Duhok to purchase sacrificial animals* despite
\nhigher prices.<\/p>\n

Erbil<\/p>\n

Erbil Governor Omed
\nXoshnaw revealed that more than 70,000 tourists have entered the province over
\nthe past few days, with between 6,000 and 7,000 visitors daily, and
\nexpected those numbers to increase
\nfurther in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Xoshnaw said, \u201cAuthorities
\ncontinue to implement measures to ensure the smooth entry of visitors and
\ndirect them to tourist destinations across the province.\u201d He added that local
\nauthorities have adopted a new strategy to develop Erbil\u2019s tourism sector,
\nwhich is expected to drive a gradual increase in visitor numbers to the capital.<\/p>\n

Duhok<\/p>\n

In Duhok, preparations
\nhave brought a festive atmosphere to markets and public spaces, with families
\nshopping for holiday necessities, purchasing sacrificial animals, and gathering
\nahead of the celebrations.<\/p>\n

Livestock markets
\nhave witnessed growing* activity ahead of the holiday, with a wide supply of
\nsheep, lambs, and cattle available for sale. However, prices have risen<\/a>
\nnoticeably compared with last year, livestock traders told Shafaq News.<\/p>\n

Haji Dzhwar Adel,
\nwho has operated a livestock market, pointed out that a calf weighing around
\n400 kilograms sells for about 3.5 million Iraqi dinars ($2,480), while larger
\ncattle can reach 4 million dinars ($2,835). Sheep prices range between 500,000
\nand 600,000 dinars ($355\u2013425), while lambs sell for between 600,000 dinars and
\none million dinars ($425\u2013710).<\/p>\n

Al-Sulaymaniyah<\/p>\n

In Al-Sulaymaniyah,
\nlarge crowds gathered to participate in Arafat Day Takbir ceremonies, an annual
\nreligious tradition held on the eve of Eid Al-Adha.<\/p>\n

Khalifa Yassin, who
\nsupervised the event, told Shafaq News that residents from different
\ncommunities and religious backgrounds joined the celebrations, which began
\nafter noon prayers and featured vehicle processions decorated with flags,
\nbanners, and religious slogans. He noted that the tradition has become an
\nimportant social and religious occasion for the city, helping strengthen
\ncommunity ties and preserve local cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

The Kurdish and the Iraqi governments announced that the Eid
\nAl-Adha holiday will run from May 25 through May 30.<\/p>\n

*Animal sacrifice is a central tradition of Eid Al-Adha across the Middle
\nEast and the wider Muslim world, commemorating the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham)\u2019s
\nwillingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. During the holiday,
\nfamilies typically slaughter sheep, goats, cattle, or camels and distribute the
\nmeat among relatives, neighbors, and people in need as part of the religious
