The declaration says it comes ahead of additional storm systems projected to move into Jasper County and Southeast Texas over the weekend.

According to the declaration, the storms caused flooding and wind damage in residential and commercial areas, as well as major infrastructure damage preventing access to many roadways. The county also faces potential long term electrical power and utility outages.

The conditions may be worsened by the risk of dead trees and large limbs falling that were killed in the 2023 drought, creating a public safety hazard.

The declaration will allow state, county and local personnel, emergency responders and utility crews to conduct operations as needed to protect lives and property.

Copyright 2026 KTRE.
