With Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez being put back on the injured list<\/a> with a strained oblique, a roster spot has opened up.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers have elected to bring back up a player recently sent down to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets: Alex Freeland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Freeland was sent down earlier this month when Mookie Betts<\/a> returned from injury \u2014\u00a0coincidentally, also a strained oblique \u2014\u00a0but has since been excelling for OKC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how long he would stay with the Dodgers, as Tommy Edman<\/a> is also due back from injury.<\/p>\n

Edman began his rehab assignment with OKC on Tuesday<\/a>, though it\u2019s expected to be a lengthy period.<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s injury could also benefit Hyeseong Kim<\/a>, who was believed to be the likely option to be sent down upon Edman\u2019s return.<\/p>\n

With Hern\u00e1ndez out as well, though, Kim could remain in the majors for longer.<\/p>\n

How did Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez get hurt again?<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez, who\u2019d recently returned from having elbow surgery in the offseason, played only a game and a half before exiting with an injury Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez said after the game Tuesday that he\u2019d experienced the strain during batting practice on Monday, before he made his season debut.<\/p>\n

Despite that, he played through it, hitting 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in limited action before he was forced to exit his second game after reaching base during his second at-bat.<\/p>\n

How long will Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez be out?<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez said it\u2019s hard to be sure how long he\u2019ll be out, as he\u2019s never experienced an oblique injury before.<\/p>\n

That said, he\u2019s hoping for a low-grade strain.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m hoping that it\u2019s best-case scenario, maybe hopefully a grade 1 and at least two or three weeks and I\u2019m back, but who knows,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In Betts\u2019 case, he returned after five weeks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If Hern\u00e1ndez gets his wish and his strain is low-grade, he could indeed be back within a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

A high-grade strain, though, could cost him up to eight weeks.<\/p>\n

On social media, Hern\u00e1ndez stayed positive.<\/p>\n
