Bristol City’s move to appoint Tommy Elphick as their new boss is off.<\/p>\n
The Bournemouth<\/a> assistant is not expected to join the Robins, having turned down the chance to move to Ashton Gate.<\/p>\n Ex-Brighton<\/a> defender Elphick, 38, is now set to stay at the Vitality Stadium as part of Marco Rose’s new coaching team.<\/p>\n Bristol City had moved for Elphick ahead of Lincoln boss Michael Skubala despite him guiding the Imps to the League One title. <\/p>\n Skubala, named League One Manager of the Year at the League Managers’ Association awards on Tuesday, has since signed a new deal at Sincil Bank after Bristol City triggered his previous release clause. <\/p>\n Portsmouth boss John Mousinho was also a contender but the Robins opted for former Aston Villa<\/a> defender Elphick, who has held a coaching role at the Cherries since 2021 having played 145 times for the club.<\/p>\n Bristol City had been looking for a successor to Roy Hodgson following the former England manager’s interim spell after he replaced Gerhard Struber<\/a> in March. <\/p>\n Hodgson took them to 12th in the Championship, where they finished 11 points off the top six. <\/p>\n It leaves new sporting director James Ellis<\/a>, previously Arsenal<\/a>‘s former technical director, to continue to look for a new manager.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bristol City’s move to appoint Tommy Elphick as their new boss is off.
