PARIS (AP) \u2014 Naomi Osaka<\/a> keeps bringing the fashion<\/a> in Paris.<\/p>\n

For her walk-on before a second-round win at the French Open<\/a>, the tennis star wore a metallic gold bomber jacket over her sequined gold playing dress, offset by an ivory train in a look that mixes sportswear with couture.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe inspo was, I don\u2019t want to say Victorian, but you know the ladies that have the dresses with the poof in the background?\u201d Osaka said. \u201c(It\u2019s) so terrible of me to not know the correct term of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The term Osaka was looking for is likely bustles, which were padded undergarments used to add fullness to dresses in the mid to late 19th century.<\/p>\n

After the walk-on, Osaka took off the train and jacket and handed the garments to a ball kid to remove them before the match against Donna Vekic on Court Simonne-Mathieu on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to keep people on their toes and I think it\u2019s really fun,\u201d Osaka said in her post-match interview on court, refusing to reveal if she has a new outfit for every possible match of the tournament. \u201cThere\u2019s a community I feel like that\u2019s been built over my on-court outfits. So I just like to just keep you guys guessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osaka won 7-6 (1), 6-4 to reach the third round at Roland Garros for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means a lot,\u201d she said. \u201cI just feel so grateful. It\u2019s another milestone.\u201d<\/p>\n

For her opening match two days earlier, Osaka walked on in a ceremonial black skirt and sleeveless beaded bodice before revealing her gold dress, which she said reminded her of the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night.<\/p>\n

\u201cAthletes are in show business,\u201d Osaka said after beating Laura Siegemund in her opener. \u201cGrand Slam walk-ons are the only time that I possibly feel like I\u2019m an entertainer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osaka\u2019s opponent says walk-ons \u2018problematic\u2019<\/p>\n

Siegemund said Osaka\u2019s walk-ons were \u201cyet another example of big names being treated differently\u201d in tennis.<\/p>\n

Siegemund told Eurosport Germany she didn\u2019t mind the outfits but found it \u201ca bit problematic\u201d that it took Osaka so long to get ready and lesser-known players were under pressure to unpack their gear as fast as possible to avoid time violations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came here to play tennis, not to put on a fashion show,\u201d Siegemund added after losing to Osaka. \u201cIf other people want to do a fashion show, they can do that. It\u2019s fine for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vekic had no issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just something different,\u201d Vekic said. \u201cSome people take tennis way too seriously. Just relax. It\u2019s just an outfit. It\u2019s no big deal. She has an opportunity to do that so why not.\u201d<\/p>\n
