The Orlando Magic<\/a> reportedly found their replacement for Jamahl Mosley. The team will hire San Antonio Spurs<\/a> associate coach Sean Sweeney as its next head coach, per ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania.<\/p>\n

Sweeney, 41, will finish out the rest of the postseason with the Spurs before officially joining the Magic, per Charania.<\/p>\n

The Spurs are set to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a> in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals on Saturday. With a win, the Spurs would advance to the NBA Finals and face the New York Knicks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sweeney previously spent over a decade as an assistant coach around the NBA \u2014 seeing time with the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>, Milwaukee Bucks<\/a>, Detroit Pistons<\/a> and Dallas Mavericks<\/a> \u2014 before landing the associate coach role with the Spurs ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.<\/p>\n

With the Spurs, Sweeney was reportedly tasked with running the team\u2019s defense. The team experienced a significant step forward in Sweeney\u2019s first season, going from 23rd to eighth in points per game allowed.<\/p>\n

Sweeney reportedly beat out former Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan and Los Angeles Clippers<\/a> assistant Jeff Van Gundy for the Magic\u2019s head-coaching job, per Charania.<\/p>\n
