Disney apparently has \u201cProject Gemini\u201d going on behind the scenes and, according to a new report, that\u2019s not to be confused with Google\u2019s AI, but rather plans to kill the Hulu app.<\/p>\n

Business Insider<\/a> reports that Disney is working on a \u201cmulti-phased plan\u201d known internally as \u201cProject Gemini\u201d which will bring Hulu\u2019s content and features into Disney+, and \u201cdecommission\u201d the Hulu app once it is complete.<\/p>\n

The report says that the work could be done as soon as the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been reasonably clear that Disney always intended to fold Hulu entirely into Disney+, with the content giant having hinted<\/a> at the Hulu app going away in the past, but Disney also directly said to Variety<\/a> earlier this month that \u201cthere are no current plans to sunset the Hulu app.\u201d This Business Insider report, citing Disney\u2019s internal documentation and multiple employees, begs to differ. Disney\u2019s document apparently directly says that \u201cthe Hulu tech stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since integrating Hulu content<\/a> for bundle subscribers, Disney+ has been taking over more features of Hulu. Just this week<\/a>, the Disney+ experience on desktop added a live TV guide just like Hulu offered. Another notable recent change was that Disney+ now allows Hulu users to sync their watchlist and history between the two apps.<\/p>\n
