Prime Video\u2019s new superhero series, \u201cSpider-Noir,\u201d stars Nicolas Cage as a down-on-his-luck PI version of Spider-Man, living in 1930s New York City.\u00a0The audience isn\u2019t passive; there\u2019s an additional element of viewer participation: you get to decide how to watch the story \u2014\u00a0in black-and-white, or in color.<\/p>\n
For production designer Warren Alan Young, working on the show was \u201cthe equivalent of making three series at the same time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSpider-Noir\u201d was originally going to be \u201cblack-and-white only\u201d and a \u201chardcore, classic film noir,\u201d he exclusively told Page Six. But that plan quickly changed.<\/p>\n
\u201c[I was] asked to also develop a color look, and also shoot both at the same time,\u201d he added, noting that he worked on the project for ten months. \u201cThe greatest challenge was discovering which colors, textures and patterns worked well\u201d for both versions of each episode.\u00a0They used various camera filters, and tested how everything looked both still and in motion.<\/p>\n
The show follows Ben Reilly (Cage), a k a \u201cThe Spider,\u201d who stepped away from his superhero past, but now must resume it. The cast also includes Lamorne Morris (\u201cNew Girl\u201d), Brendan Gleeson and Li Jun Li (\u201cSinners\u201d).<\/p>\n
