Endangered bird specialist Patti Barber led the team in bringing the nestlings in from the 15th-floor ledge. “When I put it on, I want to make sure everything meets up nice and even. We don’t want any edges sticking out that might rub a bird’s leg in a strange way or scratch it because if all goes well this bird will wear this band its entire life. And if it shows up in Connecticut or Ontario, we’ll know it came from the Rachel Carson building,” Barber said. The birds also received a health checkup and had their vital measurements, including weight, recorded.
