{"id":673701,"date":"2026-05-30T07:18:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T07:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/673701\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T07:18:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T07:18:11","slug":"twin-falls-canal-company-reduces-water-deliveries-amid-drought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/673701\/","title":{"rendered":"Twin Falls Canal Company reduces water deliveries amid drought"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT\/KSVT) \u2014 The Twin Falls Canal Company has reduced water deliveries to as ongoing drought conditions and a historically low snowpack create challenges for water users across southern Idaho.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The company reduced water deliveries from five-eighths of an inch per acre to half an inch per acre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe normally deliver three-quarters of an inch per acre on good water years. So this is one-third less water that these folks have got to raise their crops out there now,\u201d said Jay Barlogi, General Manager of the Twin Falls Canal Company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Barlogi said the region never saw a true winter this year, leaving reservoirs far below normal levels and the Snake River\u2019s flow at a historic low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The reservoir system generally holds 235,000 acre feet of water, but that is not the case this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe reservoir system is not going to fill this year, which is going to affect all of us, we\u2019re looking at 200,000 acre foot of water. You know, about 15% less water in our storage system. But that only constitutes about 20% of our water right,\u201d Barlogi said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Barlogi said many farmers prepared for the shortages by planting fewer water-intensive crops, but the season will still be difficult.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThey\u2019re going to have to juggle two-thirds of their normal water supply around their farm to make sure that they can keep everything wet and finish their crops,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tfid.org\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/1665?fbclid=IwY2xjawSG27xleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFPYnRidzl2em9aeGJYWmNTc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHmKGPQnulnOenO5Utq1D3J5nDA_fx3yNvzZ7JDCEmGdTtTqahdoSGa8hJFCF_aem_1720iqLYhJVTq94bGWSYCg\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tfid.org\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/1665?fbclid=IwY2xjawSG27xleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFPYnRidzl2em9aeGJYWmNTc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHmKGPQnulnOenO5Utq1D3J5nDA_fx3yNvzZ7JDCEmGdTtTqahdoSGa8hJFCF_aem_1720iqLYhJVTq94bGWSYCg\">The City of Twin Falls <\/a>is urging residents connected to pressurized irrigation systems to follow the water conservation schedule. Even-numbered addresses should water on even-numbered dates while odd-numbered addresses should water on odd-numbered dates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe hope that things improve, but we can\u2019t make decisions based on hope,\u201d Barlogi said. \u201cWe\u2019re planning for the worst and hoping for the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KMVT.
