Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The move comes in the midst of Pittsburgh\u2019s organized team activities, just 3 1\/2 months after Swinton came aboard the Steelers staff as the top assistant to special teams coordinator Danny Crossman.<\/p>\n<p>He finished out the 2025 season as the Raiders\u2019 interim special teams coordinator after three years as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n<p>He previously spent time with the 49ers and Chargers during a 10-team career that began in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Whether McCarthy replaces Swinton, a former player at Hampton University, remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>The Steelers were a main player in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/31\/sports\/grading-the-nfls-coaching-carousel-hires-and-where-giants-john-harbaugh-move-stands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a massive offseason coaching carousel<\/a>, with longtime head coach Mike Tomlin stepping down after 19 seasons at the helm following a first-round playoff loss to the Texans.<\/p>\n<p>That led them to McCarthy, the former Cowboys and Packers coach, who undertook the task of leading the Steelers in to the next era.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39525732\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/pittsburgh-steelers-quarterback-aaron-rodgers-128327688.jpg\" alt=\"Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, left, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers during practice.\" class=\"wp-image-39525732\"  \/>Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, right, listens to head coach Mike McCarthy during practice. Puskar<\/p>\n<p>Part of that was getting quarterback Aaron Rodgers \u2014 his former Green Bay charge \u2014 to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/31\/sports\/mike-mccarthy-details-his-talks-with-aaron-rodgers-as-steelers-saga-lingers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">return for one more year<\/a> under center while the team searches for a long-term solution at the position.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mike McCarthy\u2019s first Steelers staff has already taken a hit.
