Ed O\u2019Brien<\/a> has spoken to NME about Radiohead<\/a>\u2018s plans for a future album.<\/p>\n

The band haven\u2019t released an album together since 2016\u2019s \u2018A Moon Shaped Pool\u2019<\/a>, but since their 2025\u00a0comeback tour<\/a> and all five members forming a new private limited company<\/a> back in February, speculation that a new one may be on the way has been rife.<\/p>\n

Now, O\u2019Brien has addressed the rumours in a new interview with NME<\/a>, where he also reflected on the \u201camazing\u201d tour, saying the band were \u201cso blessed that people want to see what we do\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, he added, \u201cat the heart of it, it\u2019s five people. The songs can kind of play themselves in a way, but if there\u2019s the love and that feeling between the five of us, and there was, and it was glorious,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

We then asked him if this could lead to the songwriting of the band\u2019s long-awaited next album, to which he responded, laughing: \u201cWhere did you get this idea that there\u2019s another Radiohead record?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know it\u2019s so funny and it comes from a good place,\u201d he went on to say. \u201cPeople want to hear another Radiohead record. I can\u2019t even imagine it because we\u2019ve not even talked about another record. I think that\u2019s because the last record was so fucking awful to make! The tale of that record is so fucking dark. It casts a long shadow. Maybe ask me in six years time!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Other members of the band have also been speaking about a potential new album, with Jonny Greenwood saying back in February that he had \u201cno idea\u201d whether Radiohead might release new material<\/a>. \u201cI mean, I\u2019m surprised that the tour actually happened and that we all enjoyed it so much,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cBut venues get booked so far in advance. To do another we would have to decide now, and even then it wouldn\u2019t happen for 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Thom Yorke<\/a> has remained tight-lipped about the prospect of a new album, but also reflected on the tour in a recent interview with NME<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m really, really glad we did it, but if you\u2019d have asked me beforehand then I wouldn\u2019t have known,\u201d he told us. \u201c[I was thinking] \u2018I\u2019ve got to get in shape, dude. This is killing me! It\u2019s hard work!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a few moments that really stuck in mind. We felt as much part of it as the audience. Honestly, honestly, honestly, honestly.\u00a0The first night in Madrid<\/a>, walking through the crowd was just extraordinary. The first night in Berlin, Monday nights are a kamikaze for everybody, but 20,000 Berlin hipsters losing their shit was like, \u2018I will never forget this moment\u2019. It was so cool, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shows consisted of four-night residencies in each of Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin<\/a>\u00a0last November and December. The tour\u00a0saw them\u00a0play in the round<\/a>, picking from a\u00a0range of 65 songs every night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien previously revealed that the band are already planning to play \u201c20 shows each year\u201d on a different continent<\/a>\u00a0from next year.<\/p>\n

Since their last album, the individual members have continued to release music. Yorke and Greenwood have shared three albums with drummer Tom Skinner as The Smile<\/a> \u2013 the last being 2024\u2019s \u2018Cutouts\u2019<\/a>. Yorke\u2019s last solo album was\u00a02019\u2019s \u2018ANIMA<\/a>\u2018, and he also featured on Red Hot Chili Peppers<\/a> bassist and his Atoms For Peace bandmate\u00a0Flea\u2019s recent solo debut, \u2018Honora<\/a>\u2018. O\u2019Brien also recently released his solo album \u2018Blue Morpho<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0a glowing, five-star review<\/a>\u00a0of one of Radiohead\u2019s gigs in London last November,\u00a0NME\u00a0wrote: \u201cWhat a show: a visceral energy, a tasteful spectacle, all delivered with a generosity of spirit, Yorke in full rockstar mode as the band trade places to tend to each corner of the venue.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a band once embarrassed by the notion of \u2018arena rock\u2019, nobody does it better. A new album and another night like this can\u2019t come soon enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reunion shows saw\u00a0Radiohead\u00a0break the attendance record for London\u2019s O2<\/a>,\u00a0surpassing\u00a0Metallica<\/a>, who had held the title since 2017.\u00a0In the capital, the band\u2019s dates raised money for\u00a0the LIVE Trust,<\/a>\u00a0which represents the UK\u2019s live music and entertainment sector, along with\u00a0M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res<\/a>\u00a0(Doctors Without Borders) for their European shows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ed O\u2019Brien has spoken to NME about Radiohead\u2018s plans for a future album.
