That\u2019s because one brief moment between the Dream star and the officials stole the spotlight, and it\u2019s now the talk of the league across its many circles.<\/p>\n

Reese picked up her first tech during Atlanta\u2019s season opener against the Minnesota Lynx<\/a> before adding another in a recent matchup against the Phoenix Mercury<\/a>. Now, these fouls come with their own financial repercussions.<\/p>\n

Under the league\u2019s new Collective Bargaining Agreement, technical fouls one through three will cost a player a $500 fine each. So Angel Reese has now accumulated a total of $1,500 in fines.<\/p>\n

But it is worth noting that Reese\u2019s situation doesn\u2019t exist in isolation.<\/p>\n

Take Caitlin Clark<\/a>, for example; she recently recorded her second technical foul of the season<\/a>, after getting tangled up with the Golden State Valkyrie\u2019s forward Janelle Salaun. And it just highlights how quickly physicality is being punished under the league\u2019s tighter officiating standards.<\/p>\n

Last season, the league faced heavy criticism from the players over inconsistent foul calls and rising physicality in the sport. So in response, the WNBA formed an officiating task force and implemented stricter foul rules and steeper fines for hard fouls, especially around illegal contact and freedom of movement. Now, the result has been more whistles, more stoppages, and a noticeably lower tolerance for visible dissent.<\/p>\n

Fans Rally Behind Angel Reese<\/p>\n

While the technical foul quickly became a talking point online, many fans were more focused on what Reese did on the floor after the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut yet she dropped 18 points on y\u2019all and than y\u2019all got blown out by 22 points, so now what!\u201d one fan wrote. \u201c18 points, 12 rbs and 5ast \ud83d\ude4c\ud83c\udffd,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n

Even though she kicked off the game with some foul trouble, that didn\u2019t stop Reese from producing one of her best performances. The Dream star recorded her fourth double-double in just seven games, as she finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists to push Atlanta towards an 86-66 road victory.<\/p>\n

The third-year forward shot 6-of-14 from the field and knocked down 6-of-7 free throws.<\/p>\n

But not everyone was focused on the stat sheet. One of the biggest reasons why fans love the Bayou Barbie is her unapologetic nature. So when she waved off the refs after the call, they couldn\u2019t get enough of it<\/p>\n

One fan added, \u201cDat wave be quick AF \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\u2026. Love her.\u201d While another wrote, \u201cThe only player that gets a tech for waving off the ref, smfh.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides her techs, Angel Reese has also recorded a Flagrant foul this season. <\/a><\/p>\n

In the game against the Mercury, officials initially ruled a collision involving Reese as a common foul after her opponent was sent crashing to the floor. But after a review, that call was upgraded to a Flagrant 1.<\/p>\n

A Flagrant 1 foul carries an automatic $500 fine and one flagrant point. A Flagrant 2 results in a $1,000 fine, two points, and an automatic ejection. When a player accumulates four flagrant points, they face an automatic suspension.<\/p>\n

So while many fans rushed to defend Reese\u2019s intensity and competitive edge, not everyone disagreed with the officials\u2019 decisions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI respect Angel but that arm to Megan\u2019s neck IS a foul,\u201d one fan noted.<\/p>\n

The Atlanta Dream clearly benefits from the aggression Reese brings to the table, but as the fouls continue to pile up, keeping it under control will be key to avoiding suspensions and further fines.<\/p>\n
