It had seemed Cameron Brink<\/a> was reaching a new level, showing off her talent in a consistent way in the last few weeks of WNBA action for the Los Angeles Sparks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That all came crashing down Saturday night as Brink struggled immensely.<\/p>\n

Her struggles, as much as anything, contributed to the Sparks’ 84-81 loss to the lowly Connecticut Sun<\/a> as L.A. tries to navigate action without the injured Kelsey Plum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brink played 18 minutes and had one of the most confusing stat combinations you’ll see.<\/p>\n

She scored two points on 1-for-4 shooting, including missing the only 3-pointer she attempted.<\/p>\n

Brink added four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.<\/p>\n

She also turned the ball over five times and committed four fouls.<\/p>\n

Somehow, despite all that, Brink was a plus-11 in her 18 minutes.<\/p>\n

Clearly, the Sun weren’t converting her turnovers into buckets, but in the long run, Brink can’t be turning the ball over once every three or four minutes, particularly as a frontcourt player.<\/p>\n

It’s a problem that has plagued another young frontcourt talent, Angel Reese<\/a> — she has a strong enough skillset to try and make plays, but not always the WNBA wisdom to pull off the things she’s trying to do.<\/p>\n

Brink can make a huge impact on games as a lanky defender and sneaky all-levels scorer, but foul trouble, inefficiency and turnovers could also hold her back.<\/p>\n

Her recent signs have been encouraging, but this was a rough night, and she’ll have to focus on making the right plays at the right times to start a bounce back.<\/p>\n
