It took a little while for that prediction to come true – who could’ve seen Witten coming out of retirement a year later? – and even when Schultz became the unquestioned starter, it was short-lived.

Regardless, I was just ecstatic to be able to load up the Blogging The Boys homepage and see my name under articles. As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I had frequently visited this site for news, updates, and to learn more about the team I spend so much time rooting for and, inevitably, having my heart broken.

To write for this site, and to cover this team, for any amount of time was an honor. To have done it for eight years is truly a dream come true.

During those eight years, the Cowboys changed head coaches twice – though, as Jerry Jones would be quick to point out, he never technically fired anyone – and underwent massive personnel changes up and down the roster, with the one constant being Dak Prescott.

It’s crazy to think that my first season with Blogging The Boys started by arguing whether or not Deonte Thompson should be counted on to be a starting wide receiver for a still-very-much-growing Prescott, and now he’s the longest-tenured starting quarterback in the NFL.

A lot has happened during those eight years. The NFL changed its stance on many things, some of which helped the Cowboys and some of which didn’t; they even overhauled their kickoff rules. The Cowboys themselves overhauled their analytics department, something I was proud to be able to cover in detail. And, as we enter 2026, they’ve even made wholesale changes to the way their offensive and defensive schemes operate.

But still no game day curtains.

A lot has happened in my own personal life, too. When I first started writing for Blogging The Boys, I was a master’s student at Arizona State. Since then I’ve moved halfway across the country to Oklahoma (a much shorter commute to Cowboys games), changed career paths from law to finance, married the love of my life, and bought my first house, among other things.

In fact, there’s a lot going on in my own life right now (all positive things), which is what led to my decision to step away from Blogging The Boys. As I said before, it’s been a dream come true writing here for so many years, and I’m forever grateful to Dave Halprin and RJ Ochoa for taking a chance on me, as well as all the other incredible writers I’ve worked with here over the years, all of whom I’ve learned from in one way or another.

Nothing will change my love for this sport, this team, this site, or my regularly scheduled spikes in blood pressure every Sunday (or Monday, or Thursday) from September to January. Simply put, now is just the right time for me to step away and focus a bit more on my family, career, and other ventures in my life.

I’ll still be active on social media, rooting for America’s Team, and unfortunately still function as the likely curse for this team; I was born just under three months after the Cowboys’ last Super Bowl victory, and they haven’t even reached the conference championship game since then. My bad on that one, everybody.

My excitement for this team is unmatched, especially after an impressive offseason and spectacular draft. I can’t wait to watch it all unfold and, after each game, head on over to Blogging The Boys for elite coverage and analysis, win or lose.

So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who’s read my content over these last eight years, put up with my occasionally controversial takes, and provided meaningful feedback via an active and ever-lively comments section. You are the lifeblood of this site and the larger Cowboys community, and you’ve made it so rewarding to cover this team.

Now, how ‘bout them Cowboys!

We have nothing but love and thanks for David Howman and what he has done here at BTB. He was a wealth of information, especially around analytics and advanced stats. We’ll miss those weekly stat breakdowns after each game. He is also one of the hardest-working guys around.

We are thrilled that he is thriving and has a brand-new chapter of life ahead of him. Thanks so much David! Wishing you nothing but the best. — Dave Halprin

This is my last article for Blogging The Boys.
