{"id":677051,"date":"2026-06-01T02:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T02:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/677051\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T02:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T02:06:08","slug":"maple-leafs-max-domi-struggled-to-walk-after-offseason-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/677051\/","title":{"rendered":"Maple Leafs&#8217; Max Domi struggled to walk after offseason surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New details surrounding the surgery that Maple Leafs veteran Max Domi underwent this offseason are raising concerns about his hockey future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the Leafs shockingly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/25\/sports\/maple-leafs-max-domi-out-indefinitely-after-complications-from-surgery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced last week that Domi <\/a>was going to be out indefinitely after complications from a procedure, the Toronto Sun <a href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/sports\/simmons-says-max-domis-health-a-challenging-situation-for-leafs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> Sunday that something with the surgery \u201cwent terribly wrong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Simmons reported that Domi could not walk following the surgery, which \u201ccreated significant alarm\u201d and that the forward\u2019s \u201cstatus remains in doubt for the coming season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39542868\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-2267545218.jpg\" alt=\"Maple Leafs player Max Domi on the ice during a game against the Senators.\" class=\"wp-image-39542868\"  \/>Max Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs takes a break during a stoppage in play against the Ottawa Senators on March 21, 2026, at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, ON, Canada.  Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The report also noted that Domi chose his own surgeon to handle the procedure instead of going with the one the Maple Leafs wanted to use.<\/p>\n<p>The Leafs or Domi\u2019s representatives have yet to comment on the new information published by the Toronto tabloid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Maple Leafs announced on May 25 that Domi underwent surgery to address an \u201cissue he played through during the 2025-26 season,\u201d though they did not specify what the ailment was.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Toronto Sun reported that it was a back injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the statement, the team said, \u201cDomi will continue working with the club\u2019s medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Domi still has two years left on his four-year, $15 million contract he inked with the Leafs in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39542872\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-2264242072.jpg\" alt=\"Toronto Maple Leafs player John Tavares skating on the ice during a game against the New Jersey Devils.\" class=\"wp-image-39542872\"  \/>Max Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs skates during warm-up before the game against the New Jersey Devils on March 4, 2026 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
