VanVleet missed the entire 2025-26 season after suffering a torn ACL, which already made Houston\u2019s year more complicated than it needed to be. Now his deal sits in the middle of a bigger roster puzzle.<\/p>\n

Alperen Sengun<\/a>\u2019s extension is already on the books. Jabari Smith Jr.<\/a> got paid. Kevin Durant<\/a> isn’t getting any cheaper. Tari Eason<\/a> is headed toward restricted free agency. Amen Thompson<\/a>\u2019s extension conversation is creeping closer by the day.<\/p>\n

According to recent reporting by Sports Illustrated’s Jed Katz<\/a>, the Rockets could explore restructuring VanVleet\u2019s deal again, spreading money over a longer timeline to make for more short-term flexibility. Translation: the less exciting cap moves would decide how much of this roster Houston actually gets to keep.<\/p>\n

Fred VanVleet\u2019s contract isn\u2019t going to generate nearly as many clicks as the latest superstar trade rumor, and neither will luxury tax projections. Unfortunately, that\u2019s the part of team building Houston has arrived at.<\/p>\n
