The New York Yankees<\/a> have one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball with Max Fried<\/a>, Cam Schlittler<\/a>, and Gerrit Cole<\/a> now that he has returned. The rotation has been a strong point for them this season.<\/p>\n

Cole has come back looking like the vintage version of himself. Schlittler is also emerging as an early favorite for the AL Cy Young Award.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNew York Yankees fans have to be excited about what they’re seeing out of young starting pitcher Cam Schlittler right now. The 25-year-old doesn’t look like he is in the middle of his first full season in the majors. Instead, he has looked like a 10-year veteran. Schlittler has made 11 starts so far this season and should be considered the favorite for the 2026 American League Cy Young Award,\u201d SI\u2019s Patrick McAvoy wrote.<\/p>\n

The problem with the Yankees this season has undoubtedly been the bullpen. Outside of David Bednar<\/a>, it has been a toss-up.<\/p>\n

Outside of those arms, it is difficult to find reliable options. Fernando Cruz<\/a> has struggled with control this season and has issued too many walks early on. Jake Bird<\/a> is emerging, but has shown vulnerability in big spots\u2014though he has also come through in key moments and could earn a high-leverage role. The other options, Paul Blackburn<\/a> and Ryan Yarbrough<\/a>, are not suited for high-leverage situations,\u201d LWOS\u2019 Matthew Nethercott wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Yankees are expected to target bullpen help at the deadline. Baseball Today\u2019s Chris Rose believes New York is going to trade for San Diego Padres<\/a> reliever Mason Miller<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy prediction is that Mason Miller gets traded for the second straight year. And he is going coast-to-coast and will try and bolster the bullpen of the New York Yankees in a major deal. The Padres are going to need more offensive help that is major league ready\u2026 I know the Yankees feel like they are a legit bona fide closer away from winning this thing,\u201d Rose said.<\/a><\/p>\n

Miller to the Yankees would be a major pickup, as it would give them much-needed stability at the back end of the bullpen. Miller has also been vocal about wanting to be used more this season. Bednar and Miller together would form a nasty one-two punch.<\/p>\n

Miller is on a relatively affordable contract at just $4 million this season.<\/a> The Yankees know that if they can bolster the bullpen, they will remain World Series contenders. The Padres will not move him easily, so it would likely take a significant trade package.<\/p>\n
