\n\tMichael Jackson<\/a>\u2019s not-so-hidden gem \u201cChicago\u201d debuts on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> songs chart, among overall growth for his catalog as the late King of Pop\u2019s biopic Michael continues to dominate<\/a> at the box office.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe viral \u201cChicago\u201d enters the Hot 100 (dated June 6) at No. 30, almost entirely from 10.7 million official chart-eligible streams (up 30% week over week) in the United States May 22-28, according to data tracker Luminate. (Older songs are allowed to appear on the chart if ranking in the top 50 and showing meaningful gains.)<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song has drawn 388 million streams to date, with its latest frame up from 8.3 million (May 30-dated charts), 6.9 million (May 23), 5.4 million (May 16) and 3.8 million (May 9 \u2014 reflecting the first week of tracking after Michael premiered April 24). Its May 9 chart sum was 83% higher than the week before.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cChicago\u201d was released on Jackson\u2019s album Xscape in 2014, nearly five years after he died. The set produced two Hot 100 hits that year: \u201cLove Never Felt So Good,\u201d with Justin Timberlake (No. 9 peak) and \u201cSlave to the Rhythm\u201d (No. 45).<\/p>\n

\n\tTimbaland and JRoc produced \u201cChicago,\u201d which Cory Rooney wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe track becomes Jackson\u2019s 52nd Hot 100 hit as a soloist, dating to his initial entry, \u201cGot To Be There,\u201d in 1971. It\u2019s his first since Drake\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Matter to Me,\u201d featuring Jackson, debuted at its No. 9 peak in July 2018, becoming Jackson\u2019s 30th top 10, 13 of which hit No. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlus, the Jackson 5\/Jacksons, with Jackson as a member, tallied 11 Hot 100 top 10s, including four No. 1s, in 1969-84.<\/p>\n

\n\tJackson becomes the first artist to have debuted new entries on the Hot 100 in each decade since the 1970s. His totals by decade: \u201870s \u2014 11; \u201880s \u2014 20; \u201890s \u2014 12; 2000s \u2014 four; \u201810s \u2014 four; and \u201820s \u2014 one.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Jackson\u2019s \u201cThriller,\u201d originally a No. 4 Hot 100 hit in 1984,\u00a0rode Halloween gains to No. 10\u00a0on the Nov. 15, 2025-dated chart, he became the first artist ever to rank in the top 10 in six distinct decades<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tJackson\u2019s iconic music has surged amid Michael\u2019s run<\/a>, but \u201cChicago\u201d stands out as not having been a major hit upon its original release \u2014 and it\u2019s not featured in the film. On the May 23-dated Hot 100, a personal-best six songs of his charted simultaneously, with all having bounded to the top 10 and five having reached No. 1 in their original release schedules in the \u201870s-\u201880s: \u201cBillie Jean,\u201d \u201cHuman Nature,\u201d \u201cBeat It,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t Stop \u2018Til You Get Enough,\u201d \u201cDirty Diana\u201d and \u201cRock With You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the latest Hot 100, \u201cChicago\u201d is Jackson\u2019s second-highest-charting song, after \u201cBillie Jean\u201d at No. 19. Below \u201cChicago\u201d are \u201cHuman Nature\u201d (No. 31) and \u201cDon\u2019t Stop \u2018Til You Get Enough\u201d (No. 43).<\/p>\n

\n\tSocial media has helped<\/a> \u201cChicago\u201d take its place among Jackson\u2019s Hot 100 history, including usage on TikTok.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a 2014 track-by-track Billboard review<\/a> of Xscape, Joe Levy praised \u201cChicago\u201d as \u201ca dark funk tale of an affair with a married woman, with trap snares and washes of keyboard drama. Out front, Jackson\u2019s tenor voice lays out the promise of a love (\u2018This woman had to be an angel from heaven sent just for me\u2019), while his backing vocal screams of the consequences (\u2018She tried to lead a double life, loving me while she was still your wife\u2019). At the 3:20 mark, the drums drop out and the vocals and finger snaps take over.<\/p>\n
