Included were a handful of reporters from Toronto who wanted to know more about his reference last week of having gone through some \u201cdark times\u201d en route to getting this far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll talk about that in the coming weeks if it happens, you know,\u201d he said, referring to winning the Cup. \u201cRight now just focused on getting the job at hand and I\u2019m excited to start this up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has reason to be.<\/p>\n<p>After all, he\u2019s been waiting almost a lifetime for this.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled going to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/shawn-thornton-8465978\" title=\"Shawn Thornton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shawn Thornton<\/a>\u2019s Stanley Cup party in 2007 when the rugged winger was a member of the champion Anaheim Ducks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was with my grandma at the time,\u201d Marner said. \u201cI remember it was really cool. I was quite young at the time.
