San Antonio is preparing for an influx of visitors as the Spurs get set to host Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks tomorrow night, with businesses and city leaders expecting big crowds and a boost for downtown.<\/p>\n
From Wall Street to y’all street, Knicks fans are heading to the Alamo City and San Antonio gets ready to showcase everything it has to offer.<\/p>\n
From the River Walk to the Alamo, Spurs-themed decorations are going up as the national spotlight turns to the city. Leaders and business owners say the Finals are not only about a championship, but also a chance to showcase what makes San Antonio unique.<\/p>\n
Trish DeBerry of Centro San Antonio said downtown has changed significantly since 2014 and is ready for visitors. \u201cWe welcome visitors with hospitality, really the beauty, the historic nature of downtown and a lot has changed since 2014,\u201d DeBerry said.<\/p>\n
Centro San Antonio is also rolling out beautification efforts, including new flags, banners and Spurs-themed touches. DeBerry said pedestrian bridges will be updated with team colors. \u201cSo pedestrian bridges will be painted so that we’re flying the colors of the Spurs associated with the Riverwalk and what that means. So, yes, it will be even more beautiful than ever, obviously during the final series,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Along the River Walk, restaurants said they are already seeing an influx of people, including Knicks fans, and are staffing up ahead of even larger crowds. L’ lee Cameron from Casa Rio said the restaurant is preparing for the rush. \u201cWe are ready, we’re increasing our staff. It’s just an electrifying time for the Spurs,\u201d Cameron said.<\/p>\n
Business owners said the Finals are expected to provide an economic boost as visitors pack into the city. \u201cIt’s fun to welcome people that have never been here, and San Antonio is in the spotlight right now. We’re just happy to be able to Reap some of that reward,\u201d a Casa Rio representative said.<\/p>\n
