I don\u2019t know what it says about the state of the DP World Tour that Bernd Wiesberger is just 33\/1 in 2026, but what I will say is that he\u2019s a winner who isn\u2019t afraid of putting together multiple win seasons and returns to Holland in incredible form, with a win, two 13th place finishes and a 4th in his past five starts.<\/p>\n
His win came in China, where he led at halfway and bounced back after giving away the lead at the 54-hole stage to win, hurting those of us who were on Adrian Otaegui that week. Two 13th-place finishes followed in Turkey and Spain, before a missed cut at the PGA Championship ended a strong run.<\/p>\n
A 4th-place finish in his home Open last week in Austria ensured a quick bounce back and puts him firmly in our sights for this week at the KLM, where he has played this course well, finishing 7th and 46th in two visits, and has also finished runner-up in the event elsewhere, in 2016.<\/p>\n
Before last week his iron play dictated his good form, and while his ranked 13th in SG Tee to Green last week, his iron play was modest at best, so while we must hope they come back to the fore again this week, it\u2019s encouraging to see he can contend with a balanced all-around game as well.<\/p>\n
Wiesberger is currently 12th in the Race to Dubai rankings, and with this year\u2019s major winners, Rory McIlroy and Aaron Rai, ahead of him, he is currently in position to earn a PGA Tour card in 2027. This will be a huge incentive for Wiesberger who, in his pomp, enjoyed some success in America, and would like another crack at it, should the opportunity present itself.<\/p>\n
He has four top-12 finishes at this event, one of them coming here two years ago when 7th and one of them a runner-up finish to home favorite, Joost Luiten, so he clearly enjoys playing in this part of the world. Given his form, another contending effort certainly looks feasible.<\/p>\n

The Outsider: Rafa Cabrera Bello <\/p>\n

Another shout for the veterans this week, as Rafa Cabrera Bello looks to extend his recent run of form and get himself back in the winners\u2019 circle.<\/p>\n
Wiesberger may be twice as prolific on the DP World Tour, with Cabrera Bello winning four times to the Austrian\u2019s eight, but they have both played at the very top level, and the Spaniard has shown just a tad more upside in the majors than his fellow European, so they both have plenty to be proud of in their careers.<\/p>\n
Both players have won an Austrian and Scottish Opens, and that\u2019s not where the similarities end, as they have both played well at this course, with Bello finishing 13th here last year and 29th on debut in 2024.<\/p>\n
Bello was 8th at halfway and 6th going into the final round here last year, and while he had to settle for 13th here 12 months ago, he should be much better prepared if he\u2019s in the hunt this time around, with his current form far more robust than it was then.<\/p>\n
The Spaniard finished 4th alongside Wiesberger last week, and that was after finishing 6th two starts ago at home in the Catalunya Championship. Add to these two finishes, a 9th in the South African Open, and you have a player who has put together three top-10 finishes in his last nine starts, with two more top-25 finishes to boot. He has missed the cut in the other four starts, so there is some volatility to consider, but when he makes the weekend, he certainly seems to be taking advantage of late.<\/p>\n
His iron play has been good in recent months, barring a horror week at the Soudal Open, where he lost strokes in every category, but I think he can go back to the well again and contend at this week\u2019s venue.<\/p>\n
He has shown twice now that he can play this course well, and both times he was coming into the event with some pretty hit and miss form, but this time he\u2019s put together two top-6 finishes in three, and looks ready to compete once more at this level, as he looks for a fifth DP World Tour title.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s coming up to five years since he last won, but that was the same drought Wiesberger ended in China. And, like Wiesberger, he is right at the very top of the list of class in this field when in form.\u00a0He looks to be returning to something close to his best, and when he\u2019s playing like that, he can win an event like this, and his experience could count for plenty on Sunday, should he put himself in that position once again.<\/p>\n
The Long Shot: Joe Dean <\/p>\n

Joe Dean has been far quieter than he was in an eye-catching year in 2024, where he posted five top-5 finishes in a debut season, but he\u2019s starting to show some consistency again and I could see a positive return at this course.<\/p>\n
One of those top-5s in his rookie year came at this course, when he was one of two playoff losers, with Guido Migliozzi getting the better of the Englishman and Marcus Kinhult. This, then, is the closest Dean has come to success at this level and indeed the lower level, with only a EuroPro win in 2021 to his name, so he should have fond memories of the course, and comes into it with some confidence after a season-best finish in Austria.<\/p>\n
Dean was twice a runner-up in 2024 on this Tour, and he finished 2nd again at the Nexo Championship last season, to show that there is plenty of upside, when he finds his form and if he\u2019s going to eclipse those two runner-up finishes, his first win could very easily come at a course he\u2019s contended at before.<\/p>\n
No, he hasn\u2019t won yet, but he\u2019s come very close now on three separate occasions in the past two seasons, and while he has made a slow start this season, missing four of his first five cuts, he\u2019s now finding some consistency, making the weekend eight times in a row.<\/p>\n
His 12th place finish last week was his best of the year so far, and while it was largely driven by his putter, he hit the ball nicely off the tee as well, which means any upturn with his approach play, could lead to a big week.<\/p>\n
He marginally gained on approach in Turkey and Belgium, so it\u2019s not like he\u2019s in the wilderness with his iron play, he\u2019s just not been able to lead the charge with that in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
When 2nd here in 2024 he gained in three of the four Strokes Gained areas, with his Around-the-Green game costing him, and that was after one his worst iron performances of his career the start before.<\/p>\n
Simply put, Dean has played well here after struggling with his irons in recent weeks before, and while you never want to rely on a player who\u2019s not gaining on approach, I think at 100\/1 it is worth considering he may get in the mix this week, based on a strong driver and a streaky putter. He\u2019s also gained on approach on his two visits to this course, so there may be something about the layout here that suits his eye and could lead to him contending again.<\/p>\n
