{"id":681437,"date":"2026-06-03T07:37:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T07:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/681437\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T07:37:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T07:37:19","slug":"wealthy-soccer-prodigy-files-100m-suit-claiming-sex-harassment-abuse-by-teammates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/681437\/","title":{"rendered":"Wealthy soccer prodigy files $100M suit claiming sex harassment, abuse by teammates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An up-and-coming soccer star flooded with top-notch scholarship offers left the sport for good after he allegedly endured hazing from teammates so pervasive and cruel that he tried to end his life, according to a bombshell $100 million lawsuit. <\/p>\n<p>Jeff Dewsnup, now 22, was just 17 when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsl.com\/players\/jeffrey-dewsnup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">played goalkeeper for Real Salt Lake<\/a> in the United Soccer League, and regularly faced puerile taunts from his adult team members, who ridiculed the size of his penis, waved their genitals at him and pelted his rear-end with soccer balls, the suit alleges.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being courted with scholarship offers from elite schools like Stanford, Columbia, Princeton and Wake Forest, and interest from pro teams like Fulham, Crystal Palace and PSV Eindhoven, the alleged abuse got so bad he quit the sport he loved in April 2022.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39558943\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/129517001.jpg\" alt=\"A male soccer goalie in a light blue jersey and black gloves catching a white and colorful soccer ball.\" class=\"wp-image-39558943\"  \/>Jeff Dewsnup, 22, has ended his soccer career despite receiving top-notch scholarship offers from elite collegiate programs.<\/p>\n<p>His suit, filed last week in Utah\u2019s Third District Court against RSL, the US Soccer Federation and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/09\/betting\/derrick-jones-and-yaw-yeboah-receive-lifetime-ban-from-mls-for-betting-on-matches\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Major League Soccer<\/a>, claims he now suffers from PTSD and will need $20 million worth of psychiatric care to put his life back together.<\/p>\n<p>The additional $80 million he\u2019s seeking is to compensate him for the professional career he lost as a result of the abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaintiff seeks to hold defendants accountable for \u2026 committing intentional acts of abuse that destroyed [his] career and caused him to attempt suicide,\u201d read the lawsuit obtained by DailyMail.<\/p>\n<p>Dewsnup comes from a wealthy and successful family, who owns 2,221 acres of land in the Utah mountains valued at some $1.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>His sister, Abby Johnson, is a popular author of Mormon-themed literature, and his father, Darin, is managing director for investments at Wells Fargo\u2019s Salt Lake City office with over $2 billion in assets under management.<\/p>\n<p>Among the salacious allegations in the suit were that older RSL teammates tormented him in the locker room, exposing themselves and making sexual comments toward the then-teen.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39558942\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/16-jeffrey-dewsnup-celebrated-one-129516826.jpg\" alt=\"Jeffrey Dewsnup holding a microphone while wearing a yellow Real Monarchs soccer jersey.\" class=\"wp-image-39558942\"  \/>While playing goalkeeper for Real Salt Lake in the United Soccer League at 17 years old, Dewsnup allegedly endured hazing from teammates so pervasive and cruel that he tried to kill himself, according to a bombshell $100 million lawsuit. Real Monarchs \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey repeatedly attempted to hit [Dewsnup\u2019s] naked buttocks with a ball, laughing and taunting him when he expressed discomfort.
