The 49ers left tackle, who turns 38 next month, goes into his 17th season thinking the 2027 season will \u201cprobably\u201d be his last. He called that thought \u201cscary.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m toying between the idea of going until I can\u2019t no more and just leaving while I\u2019ve still got some good product left and I get ran out of the league,\u201d Williams said, via video from the team. \u201cIt\u2019s been a long time. I had a daughter that she was born three months before I got drafted, so I\u2019m going on year 17 and she\u2019s turning 17. As a father, you feel like I\u2019ve kind of felt like I missed her whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Williams wants to spend more time with his family, but he also knows his competitiveness might win out after the 2027 season if he\u2019s still performing at a Pro Bowl level.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s little stuff I\u2019ve got to think about,\u201d Williams said. \u201cObviously, I can\u2019t tell the future. I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m still a competitor. It\u2019s hard not to compete when you can, so we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
