The purpose, as NASA previously explained in November, is to conduct &#8220;in-flight validation of the system upgrades&#8221; implemented since the previous failed spaceflight.<\/p>\n<p>What happened with the last Boeing Starliner mission?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams rode to the space station in June 2024 aboard the Starliner, which hitched a ride atop the United Launch Alliance&#8217;s Atlas V rocket launching from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Though the astronauts were expected to remain at the orbital laboratory for up to 10 days, issues with the Starliner spacecraft delayed their return. NASA ultimately decided to have the Starliner vehicle undock and return to Earth without its crew, leaving Wilmore and Williams in need of a ride.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The pair of astronauts then returned in March 2025 on a SpaceX Dragon capsule, which had reached the space station in September 2024 with a mission known as Crew-9.<\/p>\n<p>2025 spaceflight in photos.
