{"id":683241,"date":"2026-06-04T05:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T05:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/683241\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T05:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T05:04:09","slug":"federal-prosecutors-seek-patients-of-columbia-doctor-indicted-in-medicare-medicaid-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/683241\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal prosecutors seek patients of Columbia doctor indicted in Medicare, Medicaid fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States Attorney\u2019s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri said they were looking for people who were patients of a Columbia doctor accused of defrauding Medicare and Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/krcgtv.com\/news\/local\/columbia-doctor-indicted-on-38-federal-counts-tied-to-medicare-medicaid-fraud-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 2026<\/a>, a federal grand jury indicted Dr. Jonathan Wayne Morris, 46, on 15 counts of illegal prescribing of controlled substances and 23 counts of health care fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Morris owned Columbia Urgent Care, starting in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>A press release from the Eastern District of Missouri states that federal prosecutors said Morris incorrectly billed Medicare and Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>They said that he billed for services provided by assistant physicians (APs), who are medical school graduates who have not entered a residency program.<\/p>\n<p>APs must be trained and supervised by a fully licensed physician.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment stated that Morris did not train the APs, instead letting them train each other, and that he left them unsupervised.<\/p>\n<p>Morris was also accused of prescribing drugs with no legitimate medical purpose, to people who had substance abuse disorders, and to people with whom he was having sexual relations.<\/p>\n<p>The press release states that Morris issued about 15,000 doses of controlled substances to about 20 people.<\/p>\n<p>On May 27, 2026, Judge Stephen Welby issued an order to have the government use victim notification procedures to let people who may have been victims of Morris of their rights.<\/p>\n<p>Those people can email the Victim-Witness Unit at USAMOE.Victims@usdoj.gov.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The United States Attorney\u2019s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri said they were looking for people who&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":683242,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[59],"tags":[97,252,253],"class_list":["post-683241","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-health-care","tag-health","tag-health-care","tag-healthcare"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/683241","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=683241"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/683241\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/683242"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=683241"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=683241"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=683241"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
