target=\"_blank\">agreed to \u201cthe implementation of a ceasefire,\u201d<\/a> but it is contingent on \u201ca complete cessation\u201d of Hezbollah fire and removal of all Hezbollah operatives from southern Lebanon, according to a joint statement released Wednesday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyxwrnc00083b6r2rt6dghf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But the status of US-Iran negotiations remains unclear.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyxgnww00053b6r6jdg4x3z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Here\u2019s the latest in the region:\n    <\/p>\n<p>            Mixed messages on US-Iran talks: President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/02\/world\/live-news\/iran-trump-israel-lebanon-war-intl-hnk?post-id=cmpyikzyv00003b6su16sx66s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said Wednesday that negotiations with Iran have gone \u201cvery well,\u201d<\/a> but Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there has been no \u201csignificant progress\u201d in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>            Ceasefire \u201cmust include Lebanon\u201d: Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Araghchi said  the US-Israel war with Iran will only end \u201cwhen it also ends in Lebanon.\u201d Araghchi also said Israeli forces must withdraw from Lebanon, where Israel has been targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah since early March.<\/p>\n<p>            Israel downplays divisions: Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/02\/world\/live-news\/iran-trump-israel-lebanon-war-intl-hnk?post-id=cmpysa63j00003b6r8xa1g580\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">downplayed divisions<\/a> between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and warned that \u201cif Hezbollah is intent on disrupting the ceasefire, the result is going to be on them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            Congressional rebuke: The House passed a resolution on Wednesday to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/03\/politics\/house-iran-war-powers-vote\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> limit President Donald Trump\u2019s war powers in Iran<\/a>, a significant rebuke to Trump and his handling of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyxmmad00073b6r8w5zpd8e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\"
