After being sent from the Los Angeles Rams to the Cleveland Browns as part of this week’s blockbuster Myles Garrett trade, third-year edge rusher Jared Verse needed some time to accept the news.<\/p>\n
While speaking to reporters<\/a> on Wednesday, Verse admitted that he was initially “upset” when he first heard about the trade, but he realized he was left with two choices.<\/p>\n “Work or give up, and I’ve never been a quitter,” Verse told reporters.<\/p>\n The Rams sent Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 third-round pick to the Browns to acquire Garrett. The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year instantly makes Los Angeles the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season, while Cleveland is headed toward another year of rebuilding.<\/p>\n The 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection in each of his first two NFL seasons, Verse is an ascending player whom the Browns demanded to be included in the trade. General manager Andrew Berry called him a “huge part of this return” and said the trade wouldn’t have happened if the Rams refused to deal him away.<\/p>\n “He’s a perfect DNA match for our attacking front,” Berry said of Verse, per ESPN’s\u00a0Daniel Oyefusi<\/a>. “He’s really a terror in both phases, both as a run defender and a pass rusher. We are really, really excited to add him to our team. He allows us to continue to play defense at a high level, which has been our standard over the past couple of seasons, and we are really excited to welcome him into the organization.”<\/p>\n Verse added that he’s bringing the best version of himself to Cleveland.<\/p>\n
