The actor<\/a>, 68, discovered she had multiple \u201cgigantic\u201d tumors in her breasts in 2001, which she publicly revealed in her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice. She ultimately learned that the tumors were benign and had them surgically removed. <\/p>\n However, during Monday\u2019s episode of David Begnaud\u2019s The Person Who Believed In Me podcast, she said that after she initially received her diagnosis, she was prepared to get a mastectomy. <\/p>\n \u201cOne of [the tumors] was bigger than the size of my entire left breast,\u201d the Basic Instinct star said<\/a>. \u201cThe doctor had come out to my house and said, \u2018Look, we think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad. And we usually, when they’re all the way up into here, we know before we go in that they’re cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I said, \u2018I don\u2019t have cancer,<\/a>\u2019 and he said, \u2018You don\u2019t get to decide that.\u2019 And I said, \u2018I do get to decide that. But I am deciding that I will have a bilateral, because I\u2019m not f***ing around.\u2019 And my husband said, \u2018This is ridiculous.\u2019 And got up and left the room.<\/p>\n \u201cWhich part was ridiculous?\u201d Begnaud asked, to which Stone responded, \u201cThat I would have a bilateral. He was furious.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOh, not that the cancer, if it was true, might kill you?\u201d the podcast host continued, before the actor said: \u201cNo, no.\u201d <\/p>\n When Begnaud asked if Stone\u2019s ex was angry about the \u201cbreasts being removed,\u201d she replied: \u201cYeah. And so the doctor said to him, \u2018If I had more patients like her, we\u2019d have more women alive today. You need to sit down.\u2019 And I said, \u2018I make the decisions, not you.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cThat was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me,\u201d she added. \u201cIt was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself.\u201d<\/p>\n Stone ultimately decided not to undergo the double mastectomy after she learned her tumors were benign. <\/p>\n Although she didn\u2019t mention her ex-husband by name on the podcast, the Casino star <\/a>was married to journalist Phil Bronstein \u2014 with whom she shares an adopted son, Roan, 26 \u2014 from 1998 to 2004.
