Thank you, Chair.<\/p>\n
137. That\u2019s how many reports of sextortion are received by the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on average every single day.<\/p>\n
And\u00a0behind\u00a0each\u00a0report\u00a0is a child.\u00a0Chair, we were here for five\u00a0days.\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0means\u00a0that\u00a0685\u00a0reports\u00a0of\u00a0children\u00a0targeted\u00a0for sextortion\u00a0occurred\u00a0during this year\u2019s\u00a0CCPCJ.\u00a0And that is just what was reported. <\/p>\n
Look around\u2026\u00a0That is more than the number of delegates\u00a0in this room\u2026<\/p>\n
While we sat behind microphones\u00a0and computer screens,\u00a0so did\u00a0children, and so did criminals.<\/p>\n
These\u00a0685\u00a0reports\u00a0reflected children that were\u00a0trapped\u00a0in a\u00a0terrible situation,\u00a0coerced and manipulated by\u00a0profit-driven\u00a0evil.<\/p>\n
Furthermore,\u00a0while here this week,\u00a0we\u00a0know of at least two sextortion reports\u00a0that\u00a0required\u00a0immediate law enforcement intervention due to\u00a0the\u00a0suicidal ideation\u00a0flagged\u00a0in the chats\u00a0of the victims.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0National Center for\u00a0Missing\u00a0and Exploited Children received these reports,\u00a0wasted no time,\u00a0and reached out to the\u00a0appropriate law\u00a0enforcement authorities\u00a0to\u00a0take action.<\/p>\n
The United\u00a0States\u00a0too\u00a0will not\u00a0rest until justice is served.<\/p>\n
We\u00a0will\u00a0use\u00a0every\u00a0available\u00a0tool in our arsenal\u00a0to\u00a0pursue these sick criminal\u00a0networks\u00a0and\u00a0take them down.<\/p>\n
The United States welcomes the adoption by consensus of this\u00a0resolution,\u00a0entitled \u201cPreventing and Combating the Transnational Sexual Extortion (Sextortion) of Children\u201d\u00a0\u2013 not because it solves the problem,\u00a0but\u00a0because it\u00a0delivers\u00a0a\u00a0necessary\u00a0and critical\u00a0step:\u00a0countries agreed\u00a0that\u00a0this\u00a0is\u00a0an urgent priority\u00a0and\u00a0they agreed\u00a0on the need\u00a0to take action.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0promised\u00a0to\u00a0prevent,\u202finvestigate,\u202fprosecute\u202fand\u00a0combat\u202ftransnational\u202fsextortion\u00a0of children.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0promised\u00a0to hold offenders accountable.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0promised\u00a0to\u00a0criminalize\u00a0these\u00a0offenses.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0promised\u00a0to\u00a0increase public awareness\u00a0to prevent these\u00a0crimes.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0promised\u00a0to\u00a0work\u00a0together to\u00a0identify\u00a0victims.<\/p>\n
They promised to strengthen cooperation with the\u00a0private sector.<\/p>\n
We extend our sincere appreciation to all delegations for their constructive engagement throughout this process\u00a0and for Ambsassador Kaifu\u2019s effective management of the Committee of the Whole.\u00a0\u00a0We also thank\u00a0the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children\u00a0for its\u00a0expertise\u00a0and\u00a0participating\u00a0in the U.S. side event this week.<\/p>\n
This resolution reflects our shared recognition that the transnational sextortion of children is a\u00a0growing phenomenon that transcends borders, devastates children and their families, and demands a coordinated international response.\u00a0This resolution calls for meaningful action to be taken consistent with our respective domestic laws and international obligations.<\/p>\n
Most importantly,\u00a0today\u2019s consensus sends a clear message: the international community is united in its determination to prevent these crimes, support victims, and hold offenders accountable.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0other message we send?\u00a0\u00a0For the\u00a0grieving\u00a0families all over the world:\u00a0 we\u00a0see\u00a0you, we hear\u00a0you,\u00a0and we\u00a0commit\u00a0nothing but our best.<\/p>\n
The United States thanks all Member States for their support and looks forward to working together to advance the implementation of this resolution.<\/p>\n
We encourage ALL Member States to join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution and understand the opportunity to do so runs until noon on Monday, June 8.<\/p>\n
