{"id":68661,"date":"2025-08-08T22:56:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T22:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/68661\/"},"modified":"2025-08-08T22:56:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T22:56:08","slug":"fran-drescher-not-running-again-for-sag-aftra-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/68661\/","title":{"rendered":"Fran Drescher Not Running Again for SAG-AFTRA President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/fran-drescher\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fran-drescher_1\" data-tag=\"fran-drescher\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fran Drescher<\/a>, who led the actors\u2019 union during its historic 2023 strike, will not be running again for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sag-aftra\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sag-aftra_1\" data-tag=\"sag-aftra\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SAG-AFTRA<\/a> president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA list of national candidates seeking political office in the union\u2019s 2025 elections that was released to members on Friday confirmed that the actor isn\u2019t seeking a reappointment to the union\u2019s top job after four years in charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tInstead, a member of her 2023 political slate and negotiating committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/sean-astin-runn-sag-aftra-president-1236312386\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sean Astin, is running for president<\/a>. So too is Chuck Slavin, a SAG-AFTRA New England Local board member. Ballots will be collected between August 13 and September 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter has reached out to a representative for Drescher for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDrescher, who shot to stardom with her role on The Nanny in the \u201890s, surged back into the public consciousness as the actors\u2019 leader during the strike in 2023. Her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/fran-drescher-sagaftra-strike-actors-negotiations-studios-offer-1235639971\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">idiosyncratic approach to union leadership<\/a>, which included bringing a heart-shaped plushie to negotiations and expounding Buddhist wisdom to her negotiating team, came to the fore during her union\u2019s 118-day work stoppage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDrescher commanded attention during the strike with her unvarnished takes on the situation, which included once asking if Disney CEO Bob Iger was an \u201cignoramus.\u201d (In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/fran-drescher-actors-strike-bob-iger-the-nanny-future-1235714829\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview with THR<\/a> after the strike ended, Dresher pointed out that she is from Queens: \u201cWe don\u2019t take no shit.\u201d) She also occasionally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/fran-drescher-kim-kardashian-dolce-and-gabbana-event-italy-sag-negotiations-1235532562\/#:~:text=The%20Hollywood%20Reporter%20reached%20out,in%20person%20or%20via%20videoconference.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sparked criticism<\/a>, like when she appeared at a lavish Dolce &amp; Gabbana event in Italy mid-contract negotiation and was snapped posing with Kim Kardashian. (A SAG-AFTRA press representative defended the move by saying it was tied to Drescher\u2019s \u201cbrand ambassador\u201d work.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tEven if Drescher \u2014 and her heart-shaped plushie \u2014 won\u2019t be making an appearance at the bargaining table in 2026, it\u2019s not like the actor will be taking a break from the public eye.
