{"id":686720,"date":"2026-06-05T21:25:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/686720\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T21:25:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:25:09","slug":"trump-says-his-team-will-look-into-us-taking-stake-in-ai-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/686720\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump says his team will &#8216;look into&#8217; US taking stake in AI companies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">WASHINGTON, June 5 (Reuters) &#8211; U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that his team is looking into the idea of AI companies giving the American \u200cpublic a stake in their firms, adding that he planned to host a \u200cmeeting with AI executives as soon as next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;There&#8217;s something very interesting about it, where it almost becomes \u200ba partnership with the American public,&#8221; he told reporters aboard Air Force One. &#8220;We&#8217;ll look into that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Digital news outlet NOTUS reported on Thursday that senior U.S. officials held preliminary discussions with AI companies about the potential for the government to buy some shares in their firms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The White House \u200cdid not immediately respond to \u2060a request for comment on details of the planned meeting, or whether topics would include the possibility of the U.S. government taking stakes in \u2060the firms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">AI giants Anthropic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/openai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;OpenAI&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a>, Google, Facebook and SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The Trump administration has been struggling to decide how tightly to regulate AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The White House abruptly \u200bcancelled a \u200bsigning ceremony for an AI executive order that \u200bhad been slated for May 21. \u200cOther media outlets reported the cancellation came after the tech industry pushed back against elements of the directive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">At the time, Trump said he did not like certain aspects of the executive order and did not want to take any steps that might undermine the U.S. in its AI competition with China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">But earlier this week, Trump signed a revamped version of \u200cthe order that asked leading AI developers to voluntarily \u200bsubmit their most capable models for government cybersecurity tests \u200bbefore releasing them to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Fears \u200babout AI are mounting, fuelled by Anthropic&#8217;s release of its powerful \u200cMythos tool.
