The most recent development for them comes with the announcement that they’ve re-signed center Jacob Gaucher to a one-year, two-way contract extension, which carries an average annual value of $850,000 (per Puckpedia) and covers the penultimate of his final two seasons before he hits unrestricted free agency.

OFFICIAL: We have signed forward Jacob Gaucher to a one-year, two-way contract.

— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) June 5, 2026

Gaucher, who has gotten cups of coffee up with the Flyers over these last two seasons, has spent the majority of this time holding it down in Lehigh Valley with the Phantoms, where in 69 games played over this 2025-26 season, he recorded 20 goals and 36 points, good for third among all Phantoms teammates.

A productive season with Phantoms

After a truly massive step forward taken between his first and second seasons in the AHL — in which Gaucher went from a player being bounced between Reading and Lehigh Valley and rotated in on the fourth line when he was up, struggling to find a place in the lineup, to a guy so readily dependable that they couldn’t find a way to take him out of the lineup, even centering their top line in the playoffs, while also tapping into a previously unanticipated level of offensive production — that meteoric rise hit a bit of a plateau in his third season with the Phantoms. That said, though, plateauing still meant that the Phantoms got a very good season out of him — his scoring was a bit inconsistent, could come in bunches, but he still managed to hit 20 goals for the second season in a row, and maintained his role as something of a stabilizing force on what was an otherwise very young team working through some serious ups and downs over the course of that long season.

Gaucher is, if nothing else, dependable. His defensive awareness makes him a go-to guy in high-leverage situations, being tasked with deployment against top scoring lines at even strength and earning top usage on the penalty kill, and the way that he creates large portions of his offense — playing hard and unflappably net-focused — made him one of the team’s more dependable points-getters when the going was the hardest, when they were down on their luck or being defended tightly and they just needed a greasy goal to give them some life. It might not have always made for the flashiest of on-ice products, but it was exactly the type of game to serve as a model for success at this level for many of this team’s young forwards — in some ways a strange point to make, given the fact that Gaucher is still just 25 years old himself — who are still working at finding their footing in this league and learning how to play a consistent and effective pro style game. Gaucher stepped up nicely into an under the radar leadership role for the Phantoms this season, and they were all the better for it.

Gaucher’s future with Flyers

Though the last two seasons, Gaucher has played eight games up with the big club (four games each year) in a shorter-term stopgap role, filling in on the team’s fourth line. It’s been a limited usage for him in those NHL stints, but he’s held his own reasonably well in those minutes he was tasked with — though that first NHL point still eludes him.

And as far as his place in the long-term vision of the Flyers goes, there’s a lot up in the air. The Flyers have spent much of this season tinkering with their fourth line and looking for a best fit to center that line — bringing both a sound defensive responsibility but also the potential to provide even a small bit of offense — and it’s all but a certainty that they’ll hit next season still looking for an upgrade to their depth center mix, and Gaucher will, at the very least, factor into what shaping up to be a very interesting training camp battle. Whether he’ll have the steam to win out for a position, time will tell, but he has the maturity in his game, the experience with the team’s systems, and the reputation behind him as a good solider within the organization, committed to playing the right way and working his way up the ladder in due time.

Because wherever he fits into the big picture as this next season opens up, there’s no doubt that Gaucher accounts for a useful piece of organizational depth. As an option to receive the NHL call, he remains intriguing, but his role within their farm team is well developed, and as a good contributor and a budding leader — and, indeed, a true heart and soul player for that team — it’s nice to see him sticking around a while longer.

The Flyers are settled into their offseason already, but they’re still finding time to chip away at their…

[66
385,99
post-687083","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nhl","tag-nhl","tag-sports
["GET
