Justin Thomas survived the second round of the Memorial Tournament on Friday by making a par on the final hole, and then went straight to X to marvel at what J.T. Poston had done on the same golf course the same day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two-time major champion called it the most difficult round he had played on Tour, while Poston was busy shooting a 7-under 65 that left the entire field behind.<\/p>\n

Thomas posted on X, putting his feelings into words. <\/p>\n

“I don’t think I can put into words how good @JT_ThePostman’s round was today,” Thomas wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Poston’s second-round 65 was four shots better than any other player in the field. <\/p>\n

“I’m out there trying to figure out where and how I can make ONE birdie, let alone shooting -7! Today was probably the most difficult round I’ve played on tour,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

The Memorial Tournament is played at Muirfield Village in Ohio, hosted by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus. Thomas, playing alongside Rory McIlroy, finished the day at 3 over to make the cut exactly on the 5-over line.<\/p>\n

Thomas came into Friday at 2 over after carding six bogeys and four birdies in round one. Three more bogeys on the front nine in round two put him in danger of missing the cut. A birdie on the 15th hole was followed by a bogey on 17, leaving him needing a par on the par-4 18th to survive.<\/p>\n

A flop shot from behind the green followed by a close-range putt secured the par. Speaking to reporters, Thomas was direct.<\/p>\n

“That was the hardest round of golf that I can remember, major, non-major, it was just insane,” he said.<\/p>\n

Poston made six birdies on the front nine and reached 5 under after his first nine holes. He then added two more birdies on the back nine to finish at 9 under par, one shot ahead of Ryan Gerard. Poston responded to Thomas’s post by complimenting his shot on the last hole.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy Struggle as Justin Thomas Faces Solo Round on Saturday<\/p>\n

McIlroy finished the day tied for 19th place after shooting a 74. He dropped six spots on the leaderboard. As a result, both Thomas and McIlroy were far behind Poston going into the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thomas will play alone in the third round on Saturday and tee off at 8:50 a.m. local time. Since 53 players made the cut and Thomas was the last player to qualify, he does not have a playing partner for the round.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler shot an even-par 72 and spoke candidly about his performance.<\/p>\n

“I felt I could have shot 90,” Scheffler said, as per SkySports. “That’s maybe some of the worst I’ve hit it in a couple years out there, and I still managed to shoot even par.”<\/p>\n

McIlroy shot a 74, making three bogeys and one double bogey. He finished the round 10 shots behind Poston. After the round, Thomas and McIlroy shared a hug on the 18th green. <\/p>\n

Thomas has now made the cut in nine straight tournaments in 2026 and has recorded two top-10 finishes this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
