That\u2019s the most since early February, before the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran, but still a historically low level. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 211,000 new applications.<\/p>\n Weekly filings for unemployment benefits are considered a proxy for U.S. layoffs and are close to a real-time indicator of the health of the job market.<\/p>\n Average US long-term mortgage rate declines<\/p>\n The average long-term U.S. mortgage rate<\/a> eased this week from its highest level in nine months, somewhat of a relief for prospective homebuyers.<\/p>\n The benchmark 30-year fixed rate mortgage rate fell to 6.48% from 6.53% last week, mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday.
