Linda Cardinelli has starred in many critically acclaimed shows over the years, but she is still sometimes called in to audition for roles.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot always,\u201d but she did have to audition for her current role in the HBO miniseries \u201cDTF St. Louis,\u201d she told Page Six exclusively at the Gotham Television Awards Monday.<\/p>\n
The actress, 50, added that she also had to audition for her role as Sylvia Rosen on \u201cMad Men\u201d as Don Draper\u2019s lover, and the audition took place shortly after she had given birth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s never my favorite thing,\u201d Cardinelli confessed. \u201cIt\u2019s very vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, there is something about the process that she appreciates.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s something about it that reminds you how hungry you were when you first started,\u201d she shared, \u201cand I think that\u2019s good for me once in a while.<\/p>\n

Cardinelli first gained notoriety for her role in the critically acclaimed series, \u201cFreaks and Geeks,\u201d which only ran for one season, but was lauded by critics and has become a cult classic. It also launched the careers of Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Busy Philipps and James Franco.<\/p>\n
She followed that with parts in \u201cER,\u201d \u201cBloodline,\u201d \u201cDead to Me\u201d and movie roles in \u201cScooby-Doo,\u201d \u201cLegally Blonde,\u201d \u201cBrokeback Mountain\u201d and \u201cDaddy\u2019s Home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardinelli said that she \u201cjust feels very lucky, very grateful,\u201d for her long career and noted that even when she was starting out in \u201cFreaks and Geeks,\u201d \u201cI was interested in the material and I thought that was some of the best material I had ever read and I really fought to be in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s still how I operate,\u201d she noted, and why she fought for a role in \u201cDTF St. Louis.\u201d<\/p>\n
