But the move is far from straightforward. The financial chaos that would come with adding James alone is enough to make many around the NBA skeptical about a move to San Antonio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, one analyst thinks it could fix everything wrong with the Spurs right now.<\/p>\n

Why One NBA Analyst Pushes a Bold LeBron James-to-Spurs Proposal<\/p>\n

King James is fresh off playing in his 19th NBA postseason. He will enter his 24th NBA season if he doesn\u2019t decide to hang up his sneakers this year.<\/p>\n

Despite his age, James\u2019 presence on the court is still enough to rattle defenses.<\/p>\n

Even at 41, James continues to produce at an elite level. His 23.2-point playoff average powered the Lakers into the second round and showed he still possesses the firepower to take over games when it matters most.<\/p>\n

But the four-time NBA champion does not have an extension with the Lakers. He cashed his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season, meaning he will become a free agent in 2026.<\/p>\n

James becoming available on the market would be enough to send front offices into a frenzy, and despite the financial complications, many teams would still be interested in the future Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n

One analyst believes the Spurs should be among them. San Antonio is now staring at a 0-2 deficit in the NBA Finals, and several roster flaws have been exposed by the New York Knicks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That is where CBS Sports\u2019 Sam Quinn brought up perhaps the boldest solution possible<\/a>: King James.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s click-baity, and it\u2019s out of their organizational character to deal with the circus that comes with him. But they have the financial flexibility to seriously pursue LeBron if they want to, and he\u2019d solve a lot of what has gone wrong in this series,\u201d Quinn posted on X.<\/p>\n

Quinn acknowledged that the move sounds absurd but added that it might fix some of the weaknesses in the Spurs roster that have been exposed during the 2026 NBA Finals.<\/p>\n

On the surface, the reasoning looks sound. James would bring immense experience and a championship pedigree that could help steady San Antonio\u2019s young roster.<\/p>\n

Most of the Spurs roster, including foundational stars like Wembanyama and Stephon Castle<\/a>, are playing in their first postseason, and the pressure is evident.<\/p>\n

Wembanyama choked in the final moments of Game 2, helping the Knicks escape with a 105-104 win. Besides, pairing the Frenchman\u2019s dominance near the basket with James\u2019 elite playmaking and scoring ability could create a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses.<\/p>\n

But pairing James with Wembanyama would be a massive financial challenge. Quinn, however, has an answer<\/a> to that:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty easy for them to make it. They have the full MLE already, which gets them past all of the likely suitors but the Lakers, and if they\u2019re willing to dump Keldon Johnson<\/a> or sign-and-trade, they can get to a bigger number.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spurs having access to the full mid-level exception means they already have roughly $15 million available to pursue James.<\/p>\n

That figure could climb even higher if San Antonio decides to move Keldon Johnson and his $17.5 million annual salary.<\/p>\n

Whether the Spurs front office would be willing to part ways with Johnson is another question.<\/p>\n
